With soul-stirring music, the drumbeats of Guozhuo dance is cheerful, the bonfire blazing, the floor-tamping of Daaga exciting, the singing of time-honored Tibetan Opera melodious and Jiaxie dance energetic. In front of the majestic “Potala Palace” on the set, the story of Princess Wencheng and Songtsen Gampo, after centuries, is represented on stage, breathing life into this legendary event of Han-Tibetan harmony. Having presented the year’s grandest visual and auditory feast to an audience of nearly 4,000 people, the 6th season of the large-scale Tibetan culture epic drama “Princess Wencheng” came to a perfect end at the foot of Baoping Mountain in Lhasa on 31st October, 2018.

Afterwards, Mr. He Ping, co-founder of Usunhome Group & President of Usunhome Cultural Tourism Co., Ltd. addressed those present on site. He thanked all the audience for their unfailing support and every “Usunhomer” for their efforts. He hoped that all Usunhomers would work shoulder to shoulder for a brighter shared future. On the stage, the cast of over 800 people cheered and interacted enthusiastically with the audience, bidding a temporary farewell to the stage where they once sweated, got soaked and laughed.

Thanks to constant improvement, the 6th season of “Princess Wencheng” set new records: the total of 187 performances grossed 150 million yuan at the box office; such performances and the supporting tourism facilities together served about 500,000 tourists and generated nearly 200 million yuan in revenue. Since its debut in August 2013, the show has been performed over a thousand times. Together with its related facilities, it has, in total, received over 2.1 million visitors and yielded 770 million yuan in revenue.

Touches Souls

Sublime Representation of Han-Tibetan Harmony

“This is such a transcendent and soul-touching experience. It has made me homesick…” said He from Shandong Province, still overwhelmed by emotions aroused by it. The legend of Princess Wencheng coming all this way to the Plateau for the greater good brings quite a few people close to tears. They are also excited by the rich Tibetan culture and magnificent natural beauty shown in the drama.

There has been a full optimization in aspects like lighting, set, props and plot in the 6th season in 2018. Cutting-edge technology has been applied to the lighting to take the visual excitement to a whole new level; more classic Tibetan cultural features have been incorporated into the set and props to let Tibetan culture fully exude its charm; the choreography, theatrical costumes and makeup further improved; the plot has got increasingly coherent and refined.

In fact, “Princess Wencheng” is far more than a drama. As one ascends the steps along Wencheng Avenue, he can see Potala Palace on the other side of Lhasa River and have a panoramic view over Lhasa. Every day at dusk, a Tibetan lad who rents army coats sets his stand with a board saying “For Rent, 30 Yuan/Coat”. He rents dozens of coats every night, so “making over a thousand yuan is just a breeze”. Also here, folk singers put to songs, either powerfully or softly, their romantic disposition.

Visitors throng the hall of Princess Wencheng Theatre where much of their attention is attracted by a wide variety of creative cultural products based on “Princess Wencheng”: notebooks, fridge magnets, T-shirts, Chinese silk dolls etc. In 2018, Usunlife Space developed new related products, such as ornament series and 3D lenticular postcards. The sales had a 13.5% year-on-year growth.

When the beautifully lit night takes the place of twilight, Cijuelin Tibetan-style Street is a magnet for tourists from around the world. They spend the night light-heartedly in a bookshop with good vibes, in a tasteful theme hotel, in featured homestays and restaurants or in a music and book café. A lively night has only just begun. The epic drama “Princess Wencheng” has produced cluster effects and extended the entire industry chain. Surrounding it, a whole set of supporting tourism facilities has taken form and brought enormous financial benefits. The diversification of business forms, in turn, creates a favorable business environment for the drama, hence the synergy among all the businesses.
